Maintenance and use: €12 billion invested for 2007-2010
As the owner and manager of one of the largest railway infrastructure networks in Europe, Réseau Ferré de France is also responsible for promoting related services in order to increase usage.
increasing the attractiveness of the network
Optimising maintenance costs
Réseau Ferré de France coordinates tasks involving the operation and maintenance of lines and equipment under a multi-year contract. We define the management objectives and principles, factoring in the circulation of trains, which cannot be disrupted, while at the same time seeking to control costs.
Evaluating our "network" product
We have implemented a system that enables us to enhance the operation of the network through:
Ongoing assessments of its condition.
Constant dialogue with the Regions, which provide us with information on the service levels expected and whether current operations match these.
Improved knowledge of maintenance costs and functioning.
Improving network quality
Every day, we strive to bring you a more effective network. This ambition goes hand-in-hand with its modernisation through its gradual and continuous renovation.
This improvement policy is financed and coordinated by Réseau Ferré de France and is based, for example, on:
Cost control
Identifying upcoming maintenance and renewal priorities
The programme on the research and development of traffic management systems that comply with European standards, etc.
Working towards a more attractive network
Clock-face scheduling across the network simplifies timetables. It enables trains to circulate under optimal conditions. Thanks to this novel approach to the design of graphic timetables, we provide the means to plan ahead for the anticipated increase in traffic over the long term.
