Réseau Ferré de France’s involvement in cross-border projects is a reflection of its willingness to open up the French railway market in order to better exploit the growth potential of traffic in Europe.

a European market a European marketa European market

Working without borders

The company has been heavily involved with the Government in preparing the request for proposals relating to trans-European transport networks for 2007-2013.

The European Commission has put forth some proposals that have been greatly beneficial to the railway market: 75% of the €5.1 billion has been allocated to railway lines, including the East European HSL, the Rhin-Rhône HSL, the Lyon Turin line, the Nîmes-Montpellier bypass, and the Perpignan-Figueras line.

New flows, new freight channels

Cross-national legal structures have been put in place for the C (Anvers-Lyon/Bâle) and D (Valencia/Barcelona-Lyon-Turin-Ljubljana-Budapest) corridors, both of which are priority lines that cross through France.

The purpose of these structures is to:

facilitate the creation of a standard control and ratio communication system, the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS);
strengthen the coordination of investments for these corridors and improve the quality of cross-border journeys,
allow the infrastructure managers involved to develop a shared medium-term vision.

These European corridors are a priority action point for Réseau Ferré de France, who is in favour of an efficient and interoperable European network. Our advanced geographical coverage puts us in pole position to achieve the performance level required. Indeed, the company benefits from proven experience and expertise in this area, which it hopes to exploit and share with its European partners.

Opening the market in Europe: a source of growth and opportunity.
