Réseau Ferré de France gives priority to the existing network and has a double-pronged goal: network productivity and performance, providing easy access to all its services.

A network under construction

The multi-year renovation plan signed with the public authorities in 2006 and the 2007-2010 management contract signed with SNCF (French National Railways) are the spearhead of a strategy to ensure access to a quality network. The sections of the 2007-2013 Government-Region Project Contracts relating to railway transport confirm this commitment and set forth the involvement of the Government and the Regions.

This network modernisation, which will affect all areas – renewal, use, safety, uniformity and accessibility – will nevertheless be insufficient unless it is accompanied by ongoing actions to improve efficiency.

Working towards an efficient network

Our aim here is to set ourselves simple network performance targets and to be transparent about the results and the costs involved, both towards the Government and the public. The challenge is to balance costs and company revenues by increasing sales income, mobilising land resources and keeping network management costs under control.
These commitments that we are making form part of a performance contract, signed with the Government, which will allow us to work towards an updated management model for the railway system and pursue our strategic plan.

Renewing the network: €1322 million invested in 2007
