Within 20 years, 38 hectares reconverted at the heart of the metropolitan area.
At the centre of the Nantes metropolitan area, 38 hectares of railway land are being reconverted.
reconversion of Ile de Nantes
High potential for the city
The City of Nantes and the Nantes Metropolitan Area have undertaken an ambitious project for renewing Ile de Nantes, in the heart of greater Nantes. The railway land, measuring 38 hectares, is a core issue in this region’s reconversion and development.
Role of the various partners
A protocol signed in 2005 identified the objectives for all the signatory partners, connected to the Nantes Etat site:
Réseau Ferré de France and SNCF committed to prepare the release of the entire site, which is still partially used for goods transport,
SAMOA, the developer, defines the urban development programme, and, as it progresses, acquires land from Réseau Ferré de France and SNCF which release the land.
A 20-year-long project
By releasing this land, Réseau Ferré de France and SNCF have to move existing activities to other railway sites, a lengthy process that has already released nearly three hectares of land.
A guideline study now analyses the possible conditions for moving the goods station to another site. The 2005 protocol provides for sales to be carried out over around twenty years, a span that coincides with the aims of the urban development project.
