Réseau Ferré de France affirms its position as a responsible company through 3 major commitments: the performance contract, the "Environment Round Table" and the Charter for sustainable development of public companies and organisations.

The performance contract

Signed on November 3, 2008 between the State and Réseau Ferré de France, this contract sets ambitious targets in terms of modernisation and controlled cost performance of the network, meeting the needs of the community and customers.
It therefore confirms our action for the sustainable development of regions at a regional, national and European level.

In 2009, out of the 33 commitments with set results and control indicators, Réseau Ferré de France totally or in large part met 80% of its commitments.

The Environment Round Table

Initiated in October 2007, the "Environment Round Table" gives priority to public transport and sets ambitious objectives for the rail network, both in terms of modernising the existing network and in developing new lines.

Among the "Environment Round Table" monitoring authorities, Réseau Ferré de France is a member of the Transport Environment Energy Observatory (OEET). The main mission of the Observatory is to make progress in harmonising the methods for assessing greenhouse gas emissions due to transport services and infrastructures.

Initial work is concentrated on the analysis of existing tools and methods. The missions of the observatory must then extend to other types of nuisance, in particular air and noise pollution.

The Charter for sustainable development of public organisations and companies

Signed on April 3, 2008 under the aegis of the Ministry responsible for sustainable development, this charter invites every public organisation and company to identify its own sustainable development challenges, to define objectives within its scope of competences.

The strategic directions document "Towards a sustainable network", approved by our management board in January 2009, illustrates this commitment. It defines our priority strategic areas and constitutes the basis for the 2009-2010 action plan.

Created in 2006, the Sustainable Development Club for Public Organisations and Companies is a forum for sharing experiences between signatories of the Charter.

The transport system is a key factor when it comes to the challenge of sustainable development: providing regional access for all, creating a competitive economy, and limiting impact on the environment. Every one of our activities focuses on its priority strategy of sustainable development.
