Every day, 15,000 passenger and freight trains travel along the 29,473 kilometres of track owned by Réseau Ferré de France, a remarkable volume of traffic but which still has significant potential for growth. We are mobilising our resources to achieve this growth and offer you railway solutions to suit.

Traffic routes across the whole of the country

Every year, we manage 7 million rail path reservation requests.
In 2007, the breakdown in train-kilometres was as follows:

163.3 for Regional Express Trains (TER),
122.7 for High Speed Trains,
111 for freight transport,
57.8 for other major line trains such as Corails, Intercity Corails and Inter-Regional Trains,
57.5 serving the Ile-de-France region,
17.5 for other types of trains.

Strong growth potential

Across the French network, some lines carry very heavy rail traffic, in particular those connecting major cities, whereas others are not nearly as congested. In 2007:

1,685 kilometres of track had especially high levels of congestion, carrying more than 150 trains every day,
7,770 kilometres of track had average traffic levels, being used by between 50 and 150 trains each day,
109,970 kilometres of track only carried small volumes of traffic, from 10 to 50 trains per day, and 8,788 kilometres were only used by fewer than 10 trains a day.

Our aim is to obtain optimal usage of our whole network, whilst still increasing performance levels and convenience.

A network for tomorrow. We operate 29,213 kilometres of line, along which 15,000 freight and passenger trains travel every single day. We innovate and invest massively in the modernisation of the network in order to exploit the huge potential of the railway sector.
