A programme is a particular series of actions relating to the same nature of facilities or that come under the same regeneration target for the national railway network. Réseau Ferré de France arranges programmes for as many points of modernisation as have been identified as necessary.

With around fifteen specialist programmes underway, Réseau Ferré de France is seeking to improve its performance in a very wide range of areas. Find out about our work.

Quality of the main network

The overall availability of the French railway network relies on a number of simple material factors that ensure reliability of installations and help traffic run smoothly.

Infrastructure performance

Our endeavours to extract the best overall performance from the railway infrastructure have led us to invest so we can control our installations remotely and reduce costs.

Operational Traffic Management

Managing the French railway network means being able to follow train traffic in real-time and passing this information to railway companies. We are in the process of modernising our operational monitoring system in order to be able to better perform our role.

PCB decontamination

We are gradually treating and replacing all our installations that contain polychlorobiphenyls and polychloroterphenyls, which are now classified as products that are dangerous for our health and the environment.

Providing security for hazardous goods sites

Railway infrastructure facilities are likely to be used for the transportation of hazardous goods, and so Réseau Ferré de France is endeavouring to ensure optimum security.
Safety of hazardous goods sites in detail

Improving tunnel safety

Although tunnels may not be the specific cause of accidents, they are nevertheless points of concern along the network. In terms of prevention, they benefit from special operating procedures and investment policies with a view to improving the safety of persons and goods being carried.

“Access to Trains” programme

Access to trains is the subject of one of Réseau Ferré de France’s programmes, which will require the participation of SNCF. It involves research and obtaining investment for:

improving safety when crossing over lines at stations,
facilitating disabled access from the roads to the trains,
improving passenger comfort at stations.

This issue goes hand in hand with that of accessibility, which is one of the areas in which we are hoping to modernise our station buildings.
